Tutti conoscono la sensazione di nausea e agitazione che ti prende quando varchi la soglia di una nuova scuola, non conoscendo i tuoi nuovi compagni di classe ne’ gli insegnanti.
A questo cercano di sopperire le scuole qui a Gresik (isola di Java, Indonesia), che hanno da poco riaperto i battenti per il nuovo anno scolastico. Per dare il benvenuto ai nuovi studenti e facilitare l’inserimento con i nuovi compagni e insegnanti le scuole organizzano giornate di giochi e attivita’ varie all’aperto.
Presso la scuola media SMP Islam Manbaul Ulum, dove facciamo volontariato come insegnanti di inglese, I 178 nuovi arrivati hanno campeggiato nello spiazziale adiacente alla scuola per una notte. I ragazzi hanno montato le tende, provveduto ad acquistare il necessario per i pasti (con un budget fissato dagli insegnanti) e a cucinarlo.
Per di piu’, durante il pomeriggio hanno organizzato una raccolta della plastica abbandonata nella zona circostante l’edificio scolastico.
La serata si e’ svolta nel piu’ classico dei modi, attorno a un falo’ cantando e giocando…
La cosa bella di esser bule e’ che anche in questo caso un’altra scuola ci ha invitato a partecipare alla loro annuale giornata di benvenuto. E cosi’ oggi, con circa 100 studenti del primo anno di liceo, ci siamo ritrovati a scalare una parete, fare gli equilibristi su una corda sospesa e fare il “volo dell’angelo” tra due alberi..
Un complimento va rivolto agli studenti del secondo e terzo anno che in entrambi i casi, si sono incaricati di organizzare queste giornate e assicurarne il corretto svolgimento, ovviamente sotto il monitoraggio degli insegnanti.
We all know that uneasy feeling when you start a new school and don’t know anyone.
The schools here try their to obviate this feeling, by welcoming the new students with outdoor activities and days dedicated to playing games.
The 178 new students of the SMP Islam Manbaul Ulum school where we volunteer as English teachers camped for one night in the field next to the school. The students built the tents and bought the necessary food and drinks (with a budget given by the teachers) and cooked it.
Moreover, in the afternoon they cleared the area near the school from the abandoned plastic. The evening went by singing and playing around a bonfire.
One of the perks of being bule is that also another school invited us to join them in their outdoor activities. So this morning we drove to the mountians together with approx. 100 students from the first year of senior high school.
Congratulations to the students of the senior classes who organized (in both schools) the activities for their junior school mates!
